Hey, Grand Rapids! Missed me at Grand Rapids Zine Fest? Well, you can pick up a copy of Sorry Mom Comix’s two most popular titles, American Spirits: Freelance Ghostbusters, and Trans Man Walking, at Vault of Midnight’s Grand Rapids location! Head on down, check out one of Grand Rapids’ finest comic book shops, and pick up a copy of something SMCx-ey while you’re there!
(Screencap in preview from Vault of Midnight website)
Are you ready for the biggest comic arts festival of the season? Come on over, Canada, and check out Sorry Mom Comix (and yours truly!) at the Toronto Comic Arts Fest! I’ll be at Table 247 in the main TCAF building (the Toronto Reference Library) in the Salon, nested with some awesome fellow queer n’ punk comic artists! Look out for my name (Andi Santagata, the long unpronounceable one), and come hear me read at the TCAF Queer Mixer at 7PM that Saturday night!
I’ll also be debuting Jedville, 2nd Edition at the Fest, so don’t forget to come pick up a copy!
Toronto Comic Arts Fest (TCAF)
May 14 & 15, 9AM-5PM & 10AM-5PM, Toronto Reference Library, Toronto ON
I’ll be at table 247 dishing out zines and dirt on both days! (That’s in the Toronto Reference Library venue, in the Salon).
Events! – Live Interview with yours truly at the TCAF Queer Mixer, 7PM at Buddies in Bad Times Theater
“I was empathizing (especially with the comic about hair), recognizing the complicated nature of transphobia and masculinity, and enjoying Santagata’s efficient and cutting punchlines all at once—an incredible range for such a short zine!”
Alenka Figa writes all about TMW #1 at Women Write About Comics! Check out her thorough dissection of the zine, and its debut at Chicago Zine Fest last week, here!
Holy crap, I’m so excited!! TMW #1 is out at the Sorry Mom Comix store right now! Collecting semi-autobiographical comics about coming out and staying put from January to March of 2016, TMW is a zine in the classic style: Pen and ink, hella personal, and lots of “activity” pages for you to giggle at to your heart’s content.
(TMW #1 also officially enters the wide world of zine circulation at the Chicago Zine Fest on April 29th!! I’ll be doing a reading from TMW #1 at CZF on the night of the 29th as well (along with other totally awesome zinesters), and it’s free (with snacks! and drinks! I hear!), so you should totally come on down!)
If you’re not in Chicago and/or wanna get your hands on the zine before the big launch, skip on over to the SMCx store!
Ready to relive your most uncomfortable experiences as a fellow queer / troublemaker / person who is awkward around their parents? Trans Man Walking #1 comes out here in the Sorry Mom Comix store on Tuesday, April 19th, and makes its real-life debut at the end of the month at Chicago Zine Fest on April 30th!
The buck doesn’t stop there, though – I’m doing a live reading of TMW #1 at the CZF Exhibitor Reading the night before, April 29th, at Workshop Chicago! Both the zine fest and the reading are free, so you should totally come support me / see me make a fool of myself in Chicago on the weekend of the 29th/30th!
TMW #1 is (obviously!) something I’m pretty proud of, and it’s been my first published comic/zine since coming out publically (try saying that five times fast), so it’s near and dear to my heart & I’m pumped to share it!
Hey Toronto!! Not only will I see you guys at TCAF (Toronto Comic Arts Fest) this year, but I’ll also be debuting Jedville, 2nd Edition! The color-cover, twice-as-much-content Jedville makes its first public appearance on May 14th, has 24 pages of hand-bound goodness, and retails for $5 US / $7 CAD!
I’m honestly so excited about this, especially since I had such a great time putting together the first Jedville (and this one comes right at the head of an actual Jed comic, for reasons obvious) – someone stop me from exploding!!
Don’t forget to check out the rest of the books debuting at TCAF (including work from my art and comix heroes Lisa Hanawalt and Simon Hanselmann), and also don’t forget, attending TCAF is free (and a wonderful way to get literary the weekend of May 14th & 15th!)
Parts and parcel(s?) of Trans Man Walking are now being released periodically on Tapastic! TMW on Tapstic will update Mondays and Fridays until the launch of TMW #1 at Chicago Zine Fest at the end of April (at the very least!), so stay tuned and enjoy the imminent comix!
